Obituary Bismarck Tribune (Feb 17, 2006)
Grace A. Dahl, 89, died Feb. 14, 2006, at a local care center. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 20, at First Lutheran Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Larry Giese officiating. Burial will be at the Parkin Lutheran Cemetery, Fort Rice.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck. A family prayer service will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday at Eastgate Funeral Service. Visitation will continue from 2 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Grace was born Oct. 22, 1916, in McLaughlin, S.D., to Edgar and Mabel (Clapp) Belden. She graduated from High School in 1933 from Flasher. She also attended Beauty School in Minneapolis. On Oct. 29, 1939, she married Iver Dahl. They resided in the Huff area, where they farmed and raised their nine children. After Iver's death in 1968, Grace attended business college and relocated to Medina. In 1973, she returned to and worked in the Bismarck-Mandan area until retiring.

Grace will be remembered for her many hours of volunteer work and her infectious smile. Grace was always active in her community. She participated in homemakers, was a 4-H leader and participated in the silver haired legislator. She loved to dance, play cards and was a member of the kitchen band as a stumper fiddler. Grace loved to sing and play piano. She liked all kinds of crafts including crocheting, but her greatest accomplishment was her painting (starting at age 58), winning many awards. Her children and her grandchildren will cherish her achievements.

Grace is survived by seven daughters, Mabel (Bernie) Weisz, Delila (Duane) Bauer, Jean (David) Fitzgerald, Lynette (Jerry) Hatzenbihler, Louayne Toman (fiance, Peter Kassian), Karen Scherr (special friend, Larry Junker), and Judy Dahl (life partner, John Wickham); a son, Keith (Vivian) Dahl; a daughter-in-law, Caroline Dahl; 27 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Rachel Engel; a brother, Ralph (Connie) Belden; and a sister-in-law, Polly Belden.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Iver; one son, Leroy; her parents; one sister; one brother; and two brothers-in-law.

Special thanks to the staff of the Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center for the exceptional treatment of Grace during her stay at the center. (Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck)
