John S. Bosco was born April 1, 1925, in Castellamare Adriatico, Italy, a son of Angelo and Elisa (Brandimarte) Bosco.

John served in the Army infantry, 222nd Regiment, 42nd Rainbow Division, during World War II and assisted in the liberation of Dachau, Nazi Germany's first concentration camp.

John married Elsie E. Deleandro, and they became the parents of three sons.

John worked for and retired from Local No. 1451 Laborers Union.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his brothers, sons and grandchildren.

John was a member of Holy Family Church, Latrobe. He was a member of American Legion Post 515.

At the age of 88, John S. Bosco Sr., of Latrobe, died Monday, March 24, 2014, in Excela Health Latrobe Hospital.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, John J. Bosco Jr., in 1986; a brother, Gustino "Gus" Bosco; and a sister, Elisa Fleming.

John was survived by his wife of 65 years, Elsie E. (Deleandro) Bosco, of Latrobe; two sons, David A. Bosco and his wife, Beth, of Latrobe, and Gary M. Bosco and his wife, Natalie, of Latrobe; a daughter-in-law, Linda J. Bosco, of Latrobe; three brothers, Fred Bosco and his wife, Jacqueline, of Latrobe, Nicholas Bosco and his wife, Lillian "Dolly," of Blairsville, and Angelo Bosco, of Latrobe; three sisters, Mary Bosco, of Bradenville, Sophie "Annie" Bosco, of Bradenville, and Judith Brinker, of Latrobe; six grandchildren, Lori Ostroski, Joseph Bosco, Eric Bosco, Kevin Bosco, Ashley Bosco and Julia Bosco; and three great-grandchildren, Grace and Owen Ostroski and John Bosco; and a number of nieces and nephews.
