E. (probably Esther or Eliza) Mebane was a daughter of John Mebene (c.1718-1769) who was born in Ulster, Ireland and died in Lancaster Co., Pennslyvania. His will mentions his daughter E. Lindsay....I'd have thought she was Elizabeth, but she had a sister named Elizabeth. Miss Mebane had married Robert Lindsay (c. 1735-1801) around 1765, and they had two children, Elizabeth, who died young, and John A. Lindsay (1767-1828). She died sometime between 1769 and 1772, when her husband remarried. I expect hers would have been the first grave in this cemetery.
