William Modes enlisted for WWII on 12/9/1942 and served until 5/23/1944. He was honorably released and decommissioned, then joined the reserves in May 1953. He died in an aircraft collision in Arizona during a training flight. The other pilot killed was Captain William Lyle O'Wesney, also interred at Glen Haven.
