Larry Walton Cabe, 81, of Lavonia, died Dec. 4, 2005, at Hart Care Center in Hartwell.

He was born March 20, 1924, in Franklin County, the son of the late Bill Cabe and Henrietta Sosby Cabe. He was retired from Georgia Power Company, where he had worked for 45 years and was the former manager of the Lavonia office. He was a graduate of Franklin County High School and a member of Lavonia First United Methodist Church, where he served on the Board of Stewards and various other committees. He was a former member and past president of the Lavonia Lions Club; former member and past president of the Lavonia Chamber of Commerce, where he was the first recipient of the Good Citizen Award in 1990; member and Past Patron of Lavonia Chapter No. 377 Order of the Eastern Star; member of Lavonia Lodge No. 241 F & AM; member of the Franklin Council No. 50 Royal and Select Masters; member of the Fred E. Lee Royal Arch Masons; member of the Yaarab Temple; member of the Knights Templar of the Toccoa Commandery; Commissioner of the Lavonia Housing Authority Board; member of the city and county Board of Education; Founder of Boy Scout Troop 78 in Comer; member and former state officer of the Future Farmers of America, serving at the National convention in Kansas City, Mo.; member of American Legion Post No. 92; and member of the Franklin County Cattlemen's Association. Mr. Cabe was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps.

He is survived by his wife, June Channell Cabe; two sons and a daughter-in-law, W. Chan Cabe (Manager of Stephens Co. Farm Bureau) and his wife Lou of Carnesville and Walton L. Cabe of Lavonia; two sisters, Vera Sue C. Webb of Fairburn and Jean C. Fulghum of Huntersville, N.C.; brother, Ishmael N. Cabe of Sarasota, Fla.; six grandchildren, Carrie Cabe, Christie Cabe, Cathie Cabe, Alex Cabe, Will Cabe and Josh Cabe. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Josephine C. Vaughn and Marie A. Cabe; and three brothers, Rex T. Cabe, Max T. Cabe and Stewart F. Cabe.

Funeral services were Dec. 6 in the Hamby Funeral Home Chapel in Lavonia with Elder Dolph Painter officiating. Burial followed in Franklin Memorial Gardens-North.
