December 7, 2019 ~ HE'S COMING HOME

Lutetia was born at Prairie Home, Missouri on February 8, 1893 as Lutetia Nadine Smith, the daughter of John and Elizabeth Mitchell Smith. She grew up in the central Missouri area where she was born.

On March 10, 1918 she was married to Cornelius T. Keil, also born and raised in the Prairie Home area. To this union a son, Ralph Henry Keil, was born on August 30, 1921. Ralph's life was lost in the service of his country in the U.S. Navy at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. He died on the USS Oklahoma and his body was never identified or returned home. The loss of their only beloved child proved to be a very difficult and grievous time in the lives of this couple.

Mr. and Mrs. Keil spent the early years of their married life on the prairies of Saskatchewan Canada. They moved to the city of Tacoma in April of 1922 where they built a new home. Mr. Keil was employed by the Milwaukee Railroad and later by the Puget Sound Power and Light Company. During the course of events with Puget Power the Keil family spent a number of years near Port Ludlow and Chimacum Washington. In the later years, just prior to Mr. Keil's retirement from the power company, they moved to Olympia. As soon as Mr. Keil retired they purchased their ideal home and moved back to Tacoma in 1952. Mr. Keil passed away suddenly on August 17, 1964.

Some nine years later, on October 10, 1973, Mrs. Keil was married to a longtime friend of the family – Carroll W. Kuhns from the Hood Canal community. This marriage proved to be a very happy period in the lives of both Mr. and Mrs. Kuhns but it was a tragically short one. Again this dear one was suddenly widowed by the untimely death of Mr. Kuhns on February 19, 1976.

Surviving Mrs. Kuhns are [were] three sisters: Mrs. Lonnee Odneal of Pontiac Michigan, Mrs. Grace Schaaf and Mrs. Ona Wallenmeyer of Prairie Home, Missouri.
