Nicholasville--Betty Lou Rutherford Thornton, 86, widow of James "Tommy" Thornton, died March 23, 2013, She was born March 23, 1928, daughter of the late James and Beatrice Moreland Rutherford. Betty was a member of Providence Christian Church and was survived by a son, Donald (Carol) Thornton, six grandchildren, Cynthia (Mark) Sheldon, Tonya (Todd) Wells, Michelle (Bryan) Roberts, Jennifer (Brian) Burkhart, SSG Donnie (Erica) Thornton and Janice Morton, fourteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by a son, Michael Thomas Thornton and a daughter, Sandra Thornton Madison. Services will be 1:00pm Thursday at Providence Christian Church with Rev. Carol Devine officiating. Burial will follow in the Camp Nelson National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11am-1pm Thursday at the Church. Bearers will be SSG Donnie Thornton, Todd Wells, Bryan Roberts, Brian Burkhart, Sam Morris and Barry Brown. Honorary bearers will be Darlene Shelton, Dewey Thornton, Mildred Miller, Cody Goforth, Adam Prince, Nora Brown and Tommy Cobb. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Hart Lodge #61 for their many years of thoughtfulness. Donations are suggested to Providence Christian Church.
