Elana Valencia
Mrs. Elena Valencia, 80, died after a long illness yesterday in her home, 142 W. Prospect St., Ventura. Born in Ventura County's Santa Ana Valley, on the ranch of her parents, John and Louisa Chapman Alves, she had resided there until recent years.
She operated the ranch herself, planting and harvesting hay and other crops. Many years ago she started bringing bottled water from a spring on the ranch into Ventura for local residents.
Survivors include sons, Joe L. Valencia and Manuel Valencia of Ojai, William Valencia of Somis; a daughter Mrs. Dora Vega, Ventura; brother Manuel Alves, Ventura; and sisters Mrs. Soyla Carricaburu, Santa Paula, and Mrs. Jennie Fonts, Oxnard. Among her 23 grandchildren is William Arguello of Ventura, whom she reared. Eleven great-grandchildren also survive.
Requiem mass will be said at 8 a.m. tomorrow in San Buenaventura Mission by the Rev. Aubrey J. O'Reilly. Rosary will be recited at 8:30 tonight in the Joseph P. Reardon Funeral Chapel. Interment will be in Ivy Lawn Cemetery
