Margaret Elaine Abernathy (nee Middleton) of Las Vegas, passed away March 11, 2014. Born in 1916 in Natchez, Miss., she was an accomplished musician from an early age, playing the violin, singing and dancing.

Blessed with a powerful voice, she appeared in Vaudeville billed as, "The Little Girl with the Big Voice." Performing in a local club she met her future husband with whom she celebrated 63 years of marriage.

In 1955, they relocated to Las Vegas, where her husband was a casino executive and she was a tireless volunteer. She was a member of the Women's Guild at St. Bridget's and later St. Viator's Catholic Church. In the 60's, she worked with the new Juvenile Hall Auxiliary. She was a lifetime member of the PTA. In addition, she supervised voting locations throughout Clark County. She brought her knack for getting things done, her sense of humor, southern hospitality and friendship to all she did.

She is survived by her children, George Abernathy Jr., Berry Abernathy and Lysandra (Robert Lee) Abernathy; grandchildren, Leon Williams, George Gaines Williams and Erin Leigh Abernathy; great-grandson, Chase Abernathy; extended family; and many loving friends.
