DIAZ, Joann Rae - Lovingly known as Juana, Joy, JoJo, Tita and Jo. August 21, 1963 - September 18, 2005. Our beautiful dancer and free spirit died with moonglow on her face and the sun coming up, surrounded by family and friends, after a three year courageous and inspirational battle with breast cancer. Her light and spirit will live in all of us who were fortunate to know and love her. Joann is survived by her loving family: husband and soul mate, Darren; parents, Ray and Marge; brothers, Allan and Loren; sister, Karen; many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins; and friends from all over the world as travel was one of her passions. Joann was a devoted teacher and high school counselor in the Alameda Unified School District. Her many students will long remember and treasure her wisdom and guidance. A Celebration of Joann's life will be held on October 9th at 1 pm at the Berkeley Higashi Honganji Buddhist Temple, 1524 Oregon St. Please call Dorrit 510-981-1967 for details. In her memory, dance scholarships for deserving children will be established. In this way we are honoring an incredible woman who loved children, insuring that her love of life will continue to shine - she danced her way into all of our hearts. Please make checks out to: DIAZ DANCE and send to Karen Diaz, 655 Broadmoor Blvd., San Leandro, CA 94577. The TIDES Foundation will administer the funds. Please light a candle in our beautiful Joann's honor and enjoy every moment of life as she did.
