The son of Benjamin Franklin Stevens and Lou Esther Gaines, Lural was married to Zora. They were divorced in June of 1939.

Children from first marriage: None known.

Right after that, he married Lula Mae Presley. They obtained their marriage license in St. Charles County, Missouri in June of 1939. She was the daughter of William "Henry" Presley and Lola "Frances" Flory.

Lural and Lula Mae lived in Grafton, Jersey County, Illinois in the early 1940's. At that time, he worked as a mortar mixer on a sewer project. Lula's older brother, Arthur McLelar Presley, also lived with them.

Lural served in the United States Navy during World War II from 06 Aug 1943 to 09 Dec 1945. He was assigned to a destroyer known as the DD-796 USS Benham.

Lural and Lula Mae were divorced in February of 1946. She later married a Mr. Lester.

Children from second marriage: None.

After the war, he married June I. Waggoner on 15 Apr 1946 in Alton, Madison County, Illinois. They were the parents of 4 children.

Lural worked for Olin Brass in Madison County for 38 years. He was a member of Grafton Methodist Church in Grafton, Illinois.

He died at his home at the age of 73 years, 2 months and 4 days.

Lural was survived by his wife, June; 1 son, Lural "Butch" Stevens, Jr. of Paducah, Kentucky; 3 daughters, (Living) Watson of Brighton, Illinois, Jennifer Edwards of Hartford, Illinois, and (Living) Stevens of Alton, Illinois; 6 grandchildren; 3 sisters, Vera Cason of California, Geneva Bolden of Arkansas, and Lavida Bolden, also of Arkansas; and 2 brothers, Warren Stevens of Arkansas, and Earl Stevens of Chicago, Illinois.

Visitation was held from 4 to 9 p.m. on 22 Feb 1988 at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Grafton. Funeral services were conducted at 1:30 p.m. the following afternoon at the Grafton Methodist Church.

The family requested that memorials, if desired, be made to the church.

Lural's wife, June, passed away in 2014 and was buried next to him.

Children: 1 son, 3 daughters.
