Daughter of James Fields and Ann Foster according to Martha's death record. Ann's full name was Claricey Ann Elizabeth (Foster) Fields. The 1860 and 1870 census' show that Martha's mother went by the name Elizabeth C. In the 1880 census she used the name Ann.

Martha's older sister, Cornelia, was George's second wife.
