Husband to Winona "Deets" (Bius) Herbik. Son of John Herbik Sr #97906842 and Anna (Kostak) Herbik #97906431. Father to Patricia Ann "Patty".

Johnny married "Deets" 8 Nov 1947 in New Salem, Fayette Co PA.
Johnny grew up in Nomacolin PA, a small mining town in the western part of the state. He excelled in sports in high school. He went to the University of Akron on a basketball scholarship but had to return home to work when his father was injured in the mines. During World War II, he played group sports to entertain the troops as a member of the Special Services. Following his discharge, he played semi-pro baseball and then professional ball and Class D ball in Moultrie GA where he had a record of 17 wins and 4 losses as a pitcher. He was signed by the Philadelphia Athletics in 1947 and sent to Martinsville VA (Class A) the Carolina League. An old football injury to his pitching arm forced him to leave pro-baseball.

Johnny owned and operated his own business in Moultrie GA (Johnny's Drive-In), which he ran for 21 years. He sold fried chicken and fish, BBQ, sandwiches, beer and soft drinks. Johnny's was known as the place to go for many years. He also managed the local VFW club for 17 years.
