Uncle Vic was a mild mannered man. He was kind and sweet. He never married, he always said he could not see raising children in this mad world.

He, like his sister Betty, believed in continued education. When I was in high school, he was taking beautician classes. I and my sisters were his guinea pigs. We all had fun while he practice making beehive hair styles and bleaching me blonde. Even his mother got in on the fun as he styled her hair too.

Some of his other hobbies were knitting, playing Strategic Command and Chess with his brother Fran.

He and his long time, since high school, companion, help many young Hispanic boys grow into manhood, encouraging them to get a good education and keeping them from falling into the gang ridden streets of El Monte, California. At his funeral many of these young men were there and raved at how good he was to them, always helping them when they needed it. Being a friend and father figure.

When he passed away he was preceded by his two brothers, Francis and Irving and his mother, Ellen Beatrice Van Dusen. He left behind two sisters Betty May (Shapley) Bonk and Arlene (Shapley) Clarke. As of 2022 only one sister remains living, Arlene.

I have many photos of him in the mid to late 50's with no stories behind them, but I am still researching more information on the Shapley family. Who knows what I will find.
