Murl Gene Sloan, 83 of Mtn. Grove, MO passed away on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at his home. He was born on Oct. 5, 1930 near Vanzant, MO the son of Arvel and Minnie (Wood) Sloan.

Gene joined the US Army in August of 1948 and proudly served his country until receiving his honorable discharge in July of 1951. He was united in marriage to Charlene Vaughn on Feb. 22, 1964 and to this union three sons were born; Richard Arthur, Ronald Lynn and Donald Gene.

Gene worked for a number of years as a long haul trucker. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed collecting antiques, especially guns. In later years he enjoyed gardening. He was always happiest when he was with his family and especially his grandchildren.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Richard; his sister, Nellie Sigman and his brother, Roy Sloan. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Charlene of the home; his sons, Ronnie Sloan and wife, Shiela of Cabool, MO and Donnie Sloan and wife, Bobbie Jo of Milton-Free Water, OR; 8 grandchildren, Chelsey, Nichole, Samantha, Justin, Chance, Dewayne, Brandie and Matthew; 4 great grandchildren, Isabelle, Richard, Braxton and Braylen; as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
