He taught in public school for 25 years and was a member of the Taneytown United Brethren Church for 73 years. He directed the church choir for 65 years. He was twice married. His first wife was Fannie (nee Fisher) and secondly Mary A. (Baumgardner). He and Fannie had 2 children, Markwood L. and Mrs. Minnie Ierley.
