NEWPORT - Pauline (Howes) Gray, 83, died March 17, 2014 at a Pittsfield hospital. She was born August 13, 1930 in Ashland, a daughter of Allen and Olive (Deabay) Howes. She graduated from Corinna Union Academy, Class of 1947.

Pauline was employed at Snowflake Canning Company for 20 years until it was destroyed by fire. She then served as head cook and program manager for the Corinna school lunch program for 5 years. She served as bookkeeper and teller for Key Bank for nearly 20 years. Her last position before retiring was welfare director for the Town of Newport. Pauline served on the Board of Directors and volunteered at the Newport Community Food Bank for many years. She was a member of the Morses Corner Baptist Church, and also volunteered with the Literacy Volunteer program for many years.

She is survived by 3 sons, David Gray of Keene, NH, Terry Gray of Orrs Island, and Douglas Gray of Newport; 2 brothers, Alfred Howes of Newport and Largo, FL, and Lewis Howes of Newport and Zephyrhills, FL; 4 grandchildren, Leigh Anne, Matthew, Meghan, and Cassandra; many aunts, uncles, cousins, in laws, nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by an infant son, Gary; 4 sisters, Charlotte Metivier, Muriel Patterson, Shirley Morse, and Izetta Turtlott; and a brother Roger Howes.

A graveside funeral and committal service will be held in May at Morses Corner Cemetery, Corinna with Pastor Mike Wilbur officiating. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal, Newport. (Bangor Daily News 3/20/2014)
