He was the son of James Washington and Dovie Spruill Brasher. He was married to Vivian Hartley. He was a self-employed contractor and a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, He was one of the founders of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Water Valley, where he was Head Deacon and Seventh Day Adventist School Board Chairman. He was survived by two sons James C "Jim" Brasher, Jr. of Vidor, TX and Raymond Brasher of Coffeeville, MS; by two sisters Ruby reeves of Water Valley and Trix Renfro of Paris; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He died of heart failure at his home.
