William "Bill" Maurice Gemmell May 24, 1928 – April 22, 2013

William "Bill" Maurice Gemmell passed away on Monday, April 22nd, with his family by his side.

After his formative years in Hayden, Arizona, he spent two years in the Navy followed by four years at the University of Arizona where he obtained his electrical engineering degree and met his future bride, Maryanne Minard.

Following graduation, the newlyweds moved to Long Beach, CA where Bill worked as an engineer for Shell and Maryanne taught in the public school system of Long Beach, CA.

After three children and a 38 year professional career, culminating in his cofounding Facilities Systems Engineering Corporation and serving as its Vice President, William and Maryanne retired to Grand Junction, Colorado where they enjoyed retirement together for an additional 23 years, and reached their 60th wedding anniversary milestone in August of 2012.

Bill achieved both professional and personal success in his 84 years. He was known for adhering to high intellectual standards in his professional work, and for being a man of unusual integrity who also cared deeply about the lives with whom he worked.. The characteristics of intelligence, integrity, and compassion that were obvious to those that worked with him were the same ones that made him revered by those who knew him personally.

All who have had the privilege of knowing him will always remember fondly the warmly compassionate and upstanding man he was.

Bill is survived by his wife, Maryanne; brother, Robert; sons, Mike and Scott Gemmell; and three grandchildren, Alex, Kerry and Josh.

Memorial services will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church at 330 White Avenue in Grand Junction at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 2nd.

In lieu of flowers, the Gemmell family requests that interested parties forward donations to the Grand Junction Catholic Outreach Center, Bill's favorite charity.
