Elvita Anderson Ham, 92, of Avondale Estates, Georgia, died on March 13, 2014. The Brantley County, Georgia native lived in Jesup, Georgia for forty years, where she was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, and moved to Avondale Estates in 1994 to be near her family. She is preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Kenneth (E.K.) Ham; parents, M.L. and Frances Anderson; sisters, Loraine Anderson Barefoot and Maurice Anderson Carmichael; niece, Frances Barefoot Bowen. She served as the Official Court Reporter for the Brunswick Judicial Circuit from 1966 until 1977, and started her own business, Brunswick Court Reporting Services, later that year. She was the principal in that business until she moved to Avondale Estates. Regarded throughout the legal community as a consummate professional, Mrs. Ham was the recipient of the Brunswick-Glynn County Bar Association's first-ever Liberty Bell Award in 1978 and was recognized by the Brunswick Division of the U.S. District Court in 2011, in honor of her 90th birthday. After moving to Avondale Estates, Mrs. Ham, affectionately known as "Muv" to family and friends, became active in the local community; especially in the lives of her two grandchildren. She played bridge, travelled, and volunteered at Holy Trinity Episcopal Parish and St. Thomas More Catholic School. Her pecan pies and home-made barbeque sauce were enjoyed by many. She was a life-long knitter and a devoted Atlanta Braves fan. Survivors are a son, daughter, son-in law, and daughter-in-law: Kenneth Anderson Ham (Nancy Jordan) of Boston, Massachusetts and Salt Lake City, Utah; Susan Elizabeth Deiters (David, Jr.) of Avondale Estates, Georgia; grandchildren, Margaret Anderson "Maggy" Deiters of Nashville, Tennessee, and David Warren Deiters, III, of Atlanta, Georgia; several nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service with Holy Eucharist will be held at Decatur's Holy Trinity Episcopal Parish Chapel on March 21st at 10:30 am. The family will receive guests outside the Chapel before the service, beginning at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Holy Trinity Episcopal Parish, 515 East Ponce de Leon Ave., Decatur, GA 30030 or to the Avondale Arts Alliance, P. O. Box 301, Avondale Estates, GA 30002 attn: "Friends' Garden/Muv". Family members express their gratitude for the exceptional caregivers of Atria Buckhead Senior Living, where Mrs. Ham lived since 2009, and to those at ManorCare, Decatur, for their compassionate attention more recently.
