Son of Joseph and Eliza (Kopp) Hileman. Husband of Maria Ling. Private, Co. A. 84 Pa. Infantry, Civil War.

Altoona Mirror, Friday, 19 February 1915:

"W.K. Hileman, of Juniata, a veteran of the Civil war, died yesterday afternoon at 5:22 o'clock at the Mercy hospital indirectly as the result of disability sustained half a century ago in the service of his country. Hard marching during the Civil war ruptured a blood vessel under his right knee resulting in a clot or embolism that troubled him frequently during later years, and finally developed into gangrene that caused his death. Two months ago the gangrene became serious and on Tuesday physicians amputated the limb near the hip. W.H. Hileman was a son of Joseph and Eliza Hileman, both deceased, and was born in Frankstown township on May 25, 1840. He was a farmer, miner and quarryman. His years were spent in his native township with the exception of those given to his country, and the last three in which he found a pleasant home with a son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. H.J. Selders of 631 Eighth avenue, Juniata. He was married to Miss Marie Ling, whom he survived twenty-seven years and surviving him are their ten children: Mayberry Hileman and Mrs. Harriet McKendry of Hollidaysburg, Howard, Harvey, Joseph and Andrew of Frankstown township; Frank, in the west; Mrs. Amanda Flemming of Altoona; Mrs. Rachel Hunt of Sinking Valley; and Mrs. H.J. Selders of Juniata. Also surviving is one brother, George Hileman of this city. Mr. Hileman served three years and nine months as a union soldier of the rebellion, being assigned at different times to companies A and C of the Eighty-fourth Pennsylvania Volunteer infantry. he participated in thirty of the battles from 1861 to 1865, acquitting himself with such distinction that he was made a sergeant. Sergeant Hileman served under Lieutenant Silas Piper, now living in Duncansville, with whom he enlisted in teh service, and the two men were together in the gallant Eighty-fourth. Mr. Hileman was a member of Camp No. 17, Union Veteran Legion of Altoona. He was a member of the Lutheran church at Geeseytown. Funeral services will be held at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Harry Selders, 631 Eighth avenue, Juniata on Saturday evening at 8 o'clock by Rev. F.J. Taylor and on Sunday at 12 o'clock the remains will be taken to Geeseytown where services will be held in the Geeseytown Lutheran church at 2 o'clock. Interment in Geeseytown cemetery."
