Married 26 March 1874 to Catharine Bobbitt, daughter of John H. Bobbitt and Katharine Goebel.
He formed a partnership with close friend William David Pirtle in a shingle factory in 1880's until 1891.
They had nine children:
1. James - stillborn son; oldest child
2. Effie Agan
3. Frank - killed in a boiler explosion at the sawmill of Virgil Moon, three miles east of Valeene, while gathering slabs for firewood; aged about 15 or 16
4. Sant
5. Lon
6. an infant who died
7. George Leroy - died at 5 months
8. Emma - died of tuberculosis at 22
9. Fannie McDonald
