Myrtle Irene (Cook) Adan passed away peacefully at home with her family at her bedside on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014, at age 92. Myrtle was born on Nov. 21, 1921, in Kelfield, Saskatchewan, Canada, to the late Mary Campbell Armstrong Schneringer, a native of Scotland, and the late Leonard E. Cook, a native of Minnesota.
Myrtle spent her early years in Oregon and was a 1939 graduate of Mohawk Union High School in Marcola, Ore. She had been a resident of Yolo since 1944. She retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1986.
Myrtle is survived by her son, James Adan of Yolo; daughter Suzanne Adan Stevens (Michael) of Sacramento; grandchildren Elizabeth Adan of San Luis Obispo and Alexander Adan of Sacramento; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond; her sisters, Grace Cook, Dorothea Adams and Alice Haller; and brothers William, James, Charles and Albert Cook.
Myrtle was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church. She was a past member of WSCS of the Methodist Church in Yolo, the Cacheville School PTA, a leader of Girl Scout Troop No. 87, and the Yolo 4-H Club. She also served on the Yolo County Election Board for more than 30 years.
At her request, no services were held and private burial was conducted at Mary's Chapel. Funeral arrangements were handled by McNary's Funeral Chapel of Woodland.
