Mass of Christian Burial for Carly Marie Gassman, age 18, of Abilene, will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 20, 2014 at St. Andrew Catholic Church with Father Henry Baxa as Celebrant. Carly passed away Friday, March 14, 2014 at her home in Abilene.
She was born July 1, 1995 in Manhattan, Kansas the daughter of Randy and Susan "Susie" (Sexton) Gassman. Carly grew up in Abilene and was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church. She graduated from St. Andrew Grade School, and Abilene High School where she was an excellent student receiving only one B her entire high school career. Carly was very involved in numerous extracurricular activities and received all league honors in volleyball, basketball, and softball.
After graduation from Abilene High School, Carly attended Kansas State University where she majored in pre-nursing and was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority. She was a 4.0 student her first semester at K-State.
Carly is survived by her loving parents Randy & Susie of the home; sister Olivia, brother Elliot both of the home; Grandmother Ida Belle Gassman of Dighton; Grandfather Bruce Sexton of Chapman; aunts Ceil & husband Mike Lanham of Louisville, Kentucky, Patricia & husband John Dorsey of Mission Hills, Kansas, Lynette and husband Tim Fry, Denise & husband Mike Grau, Tracy Gassman all of Topeka; four uncles, and several cousins. Carly was preceded in death by her Grandfather Severin Gassman and Grandmother Suzanne Sexton.
Carly's final resting place will be in the Mt. St. Joseph Cemetery, Abilene. A Parish Rosary will be 6:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the St. Andrew Catholic Church with the family receiving friends following. Memorial contributions may be made to the Carly Marie Gassman Scholarship Fund or to the St. Andrew Catholic Church and may be sent in care of the Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home, 414 NW 3rd, Abilene, Kansas 67410.
