Mrs. Merle Morrison Close, widow of the late George E. Close, who was head of the George Close company, manufacturing confectioners, died of cerebral hemorrhage last Saturday at the home of her brother, John Gale Morrison, of Fayerweather street. Mrs. Close had made her home with her brother since the death of her husband in September, 1918.
Mrs. Close was born in Barre Vt., April 12, 1883, the daughter of Miles and Emma (Taft) Morrison. She was educated at Goddard seminary. On May 9, 1904 she married George E. Close, son of the founder of the George Close company, in Manchester. N. H. On Mr. Close's death, Mrs. Close took over his interest in the company, and up to the time of her death was intimately associated with the business. Surviving Mrs. Close is her brother, John G. Morrison of 5 Fayerweather street, a sister, Mrs. Wlllard S. Martin of 10 Channing street, and two daughters, Miss Emily and Miss Lucile, both of this city.
The funeral was held Monday at 2 o'clock from Mt. Auburn chapel. Rev. Samuel M. Crothers D. D., of the First Parish church, officiated. Interment was in Cambridge cemetery.
