Dr. Stanley Malvern Boyd, 92, of Mount Airy, passed away Saturday night, March 15, 2014, at his home. Dr. Boyd was born October 21, 1921, in Carroll County, VA, the oldest of four children born to the late Dennis Boyd and Ingle Young Boyd. Dr. Boyd proudly served our country in the United States Navy during World War II. Following his time in service, he attended Guilford College and The Medical College of Virginia Dental School, where he graduated at the top of his class in 1952. He practiced dentistry in the Greater Mount Airy area for 25 years. Dr. Boyd was a lifelong Moravian and a member of Grace Moravian Church. He is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Robert Wayne Norman of Kernersville, Gale and Tom Larkin of Gulf Breeze, FL, and Deborah and Worth Wilson of Greensboro; three grandchildren, Captain John Dennis Larkin, United States Army, currently stationed in South Korea, Ingle Maria Larkin of Marietta, GA, and Sarah Grace Wilson of Greensboro; two sisters, Princess Boyd of Mount Airy and Shirleen Boyd Haas of Knoxville, TN; a brother, Swanson Boyd of Belton, TX; and an aunt, Ruth Minnich of Piney Creek. In addition to his parents, Dr. Boyd was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Elizabeth Livengood Boyd. A service to celebrate Dr. Boyd's life will be held Thursday, March 20, 2014, at 2:00 PM at Grace Moravian Church, with the Rev. Tony Hayworth officiating. Inurnment will follow in God's Acre. There will not be a formal visitation at the funeral home or church; however, the family will greet family and friends at the Boyd home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace Moravian Church, 1401 North Main Street, Mount Airy, NC 27030; or Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the Boyd family.
