On January 15, 1914, Floyd Earnest was born to Myrtle Lenora and Joseph Brandfas, in Smith County, Kansas. Floyd had 9 brothers and 5 sisters, 2 of which died in childhood.

He was employed as a burner at Todd shipyards in Sea-Tac. He worked as a welder. He was a member of Seattle Aerie No. of the Eagles.

Floyd married Mildred Irene Pittman on January 12, 1935.

Floyd joined the army in November 1943, at Fort Lewis, WA. He received his basic training at Fort Walters, Texas and served as a private at Fort Ord, California, when he was 29 years old. He was then assigned to duty in the South Pacific area, going into action against the enemy, serving with the 20th US Infantry. Floyd was killed in action, on January 20, 1945, while serving in KIA Luzon, Philippines. Four of his brothers also served in the Army, Paul, Ralph, John and Loren.

Surviving is his widow, now Mrs. Mildred Smith of Tacoma, his mother, Mrs. Myrtle L Brandfas of Spanaway; seven brothers, William H of Spanaway, Paul H of Tacoma and Ralph, Loren, Leonard, James and Charles of the home; and three sisters, Mrs. Hazel Hosler of Spanaway, Mrs. Elvira Baker of Yelm, and Mrs. Mabel Cook of Tacoma.
