From the 1900 census it was learned that Walter rented a house and farm in Vesta, Johnson, Nebraska and had married Esther (no maiden name) and judging by his first childs birth they were married about 1907. From this union the folliwing known children were born: Raymond Austin 1908; Paul R Austin 1911 and Norma Austin 1913.
By the 1920 census Walter had relocated, He had rented a farm in Bayard, Morrill, Nebraska. It was learned that his wife's given name was Estol E. She had given birth to all and the family was compete. His brother, Fred, was listed as a boarder in the household. Fred occupation was a farmer.
The 1930 census found Walter and his family still living in Bayard, Morrill, Nebraska in a rental that was costing them $20.00 a month, and they had a radio in their home. Raymond, 22, was unemployed, but Paul, 20, had found work as a farm laborer. Norma, 17, was attending school.
Paul R Austin, Walter and Estol's son was found by a Find a Grave volunteer buried in the Bayard Cemetery, Bayard, Morrill County, Nebraska. He had passed away in 1932
In 1936 Walter and Estol Esther's son, Raymond, passed away. A Find a Grave volunteer created a memorial for him in the Bayard Cemetery, Bayard, Morrill County, Nebraska.
In the 1940 census it was revealed that Walter now had a different wife, Opal Austin. Also, in the 1940 census his first wife was found to be married to Walter's younger brother, Fred H Austin. At some point about 1945, their marital status changed.
The final phase of Walters life was found in his State of North Carolina Death Certificate. His informant was his wife Mrs. Opal Austin. According to the certificate he was living in Neva Johnson Co., Tennessee, and had been admitted into the Cannon Memorial Hospital the day before his demise. His doctor, John W Bannard M.D. stated that he had been seeing Walter from May 21, 1961 until Sept. 3, 1962, and that he was suffering from Carcinoma (Cancer)of the Prostrate with Metastases. The other significant condition was Duodenal Ulcer with Hemorrhaging.
At 12:45 pm on Sept. 3, 1962, Walter exhaled his last breath and his spirit returned to the Lord. His body was taken to the Lewis Gentry Funeral Director in Mountain City, Tennessee, to be prepared for burial on Sept. 5, 1962 at the Hawkins Cemetery in Johnson Co.
