Elliott R. Winter Sr., 79, husband of Paula (Knight) Harris, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday morning, March 12, 2014 at his Fort Fairfield home. He was born January 12, 1935 in Fort Fairfield, the son of Alfred and Madeline (Sprague) Winter. Elliott was a graduate of the Fort Fairfield High School Class of 1953.

He served his country during the Korean War in the United States Army 21st Infantry regiment from March 1954 to February 1956. Mr. Winter had been a resident of Denby, VA for a number of years and was employed by K-Mart in Norfolk. He had also been self-employed as a car dealer in Fort Fairfield, owning and operating Winter's Auto Sales for several years. He had most recently operated Winter's Vegetable Farms with his wife Paula for many years. Elliott was married to Paula (Knight) Harris on November 26, 1983 and was a member of the Fort Fairfield Lion's Club and the Caribou VFW Lister-Knowlton Post 9389. Mr. Winter greatly enjoyed and took great pride in growing and selling vegetables, and also enjoyed playing cards.

He was predeceased by his father Alfred Winter Sr.; and his mother, Madeline (Sprague) Winter Everett; one brother, Alfred Winter Jr.; three step-brothers, Gilbert, Roger and Gary Everett; one step-sister, Marjorie Lambshead.

He is survived by his wife of thirty years, Paula of Fort Fairfield; three sons, Elliott R. Winter, Jr. and his wife Charlene of Mathews, VA, Gregory Winter of Denby, VA, Kenneth Winter of Phoenix, AZ; two daughters, Debra Nameth and Cheryl Winter, both of Denby, VA; one sister, Eleanor Kennison of Fort Fairfield; one step-sister, Donna Everett of New York State; five grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be conducted in the spring at the Green Ridge Cemetery, Caribou. (Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home)
