FULTON - Mrs. Ellen L. Appenzeller Smith, 82, born near Fulton in May, 1874, died Thursday at Academy nursing home, Watertown, where she had lived about 47 years. Death was due to a cerebral hemorrhage. Funeral was held today at the Reed and Benoit funeral home, Watertown, with burial at Calcium. Surviving Mrs. Smith are two children, Mrs. Dean J. (Hazel I.) Wells, Watertown, and Richard F. Smith, a Watertown post office mail carrier; a sister, Mrs. Nettie Nichols, Watertown, widow of D. W. Nichols. Her husband died in the House of the Good Samaritan Apr 26 1954, at the age of 84 years. Mrs. Smith was the daughter of Frederick and Amelia Loomis Appenzeller. She was married to William H. Smith on Jan. 8, 1896, at the home of her parents, who then lived in LeRaysville. Mr. Smith was at one time in the undertaking business at New Haven. In later years he was employed in a paper mill at Felts Mills.
