Kingsport - Phoebe Wagner Sakay, 96, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Thursday morning (March 13, 2014) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center following an extended illness. She was born in Scott County, Virginia and had resided in Kingsport for over 40 years. For the past year, she had resided at the Regency Retirement Center in Morristown. Phoebe was a very active member of Higher Ground Baptist Church being involved in the Mary Class and the Tuesday Bible Study. She was a very loving and caring person who especially loved her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Lousia Griffin Wagner; her husband, Albert Sakay; brothers, Oscar Wagner, Kelsy Wagner, J. C. Wagner, Robert Wagner, Kenny Wagner, and Hicklen Manis; her sisters, Lakie Mann, Rhinda Tunnell, Ida Bellamy, Ollie Cunningham, Edna Seckler, Pearl Harkleroad, and Virgie Miller.

Phoebe Sakay is survived by her daughter, Marjorie Smith and husband, Claude; a grandson, Chad Smith and wife, Dawn; great granddaughters, Phoebe Cayla Smith and Lauren Ashley Smith; a sister, Lillie Belle Adams along with several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday (March 15, 2014) from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport.

A funeral service will be conducted on Sunday (March 16, 2014) at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Dr. Phil Hoskins, officiating.

A graveside service will follow the funeral service at Holston View Cemetery with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
