AMOS JOHN KLINKHART, 826 Potomac Ave, who had operated an architect's office here for almost a half century, died yesterday at noon.

Mr. Klinkhart was widely known as the man who designed many of the largest structures in Hagerstown and vicinity. He was also prominent in state architectural activities.

Since opening his office in Hagerstown on October 1, 1907, Mr. Klinkhart had served as architect for such major structures as City Hall, the Washington County Hospital, and the State Reformatory for Males. He also was architect for the Baltimore Housing Project, a low-rent housing development in that city.

From 1935 through 1943, he had served as a member of the State Registration Board for Architects. In 1940, Mr. Klinkhart won first prize in a competition sponsored by the Maryland Society of Architects for the best design of a house costing less than $10,000.

Mr. Klinkhart was born in Canajoharie, NY, the son of the late John and Mary (Spear) Klinkhart. He graduated from Canajoharie High School and Cornell University. Before moving to Hagerstown, he had worked for the federal government, and in offices of private architects in Ithaca, NY, Saulte Sainte Marie, Mich, Danville, Ill, Columbus, Ohio, and Harrisburg, Pa.

Mr. Klinkhart was a member of St John's Lutheran Church; American Institute of Architects; Hamilton Lodge No 79 F & AM< Canajoharie; Maryland State Society of Architects; Bernard Commandery No 9, Knights Templar, Hagerstown; Ali Ghan Temple, A.A.O.N.M.S. Cumberland; Hagerstown Shrine Club; Hagerstown Lodge No 378 BPO Elks; the Cornell Club of Maryland; Hagerstown Kiwanis Club; Conococheague Sportsmen's Club; and was a charter member of Fountain Head Country Club.

Survivors are: wife, Catherine Klinkhart; brother, William Klinkhart, Canjoharie; and a sister. Mrs. Ida Yowps, Canajoharie.

Services Sunday at 3 pm at Minnich Funeral Home, Rev Dr L Boyd Hamm officiating. the body will be taken to Canajoharie for interment in Canajoharie Falls Cemetery.
