Betty Lou Perry's Obituary

Betty Louise Perry, age 84 of Beaver, W.Va., formerly of Maxwell Hill in Beckley, departed this life on Monday, March 10, 2014. She will be remembered by all who knew her as a generous and loving sister, aunt, and friend.

Betty was a 1947 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School. She then attended McMillan Hospital School of Nursing in Charleston, W.Va. and graduated in 1950. She then furthered her career and education in nursing, receiving her BSN from Indiana University.

Betty had a passion for the nursing profession and served as a member of the WVNA for many years. She spent most of her career at the Beckley VA Medical Center where she retired as the Associate Chief for Nursing Service in 1985 after giving them over 30 years of dedicated service. She also was active in the NARFE after her retirement.

After leaving the VA Medical Center she continued to share her love for nursing by working with Hospice and as an instructor for the Raleigh County Vocational LPN program.

Known affectionately as "Betty Lou" in her personal life she enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling, and reading.

She was a member of the First Christian Church in Beckley, WV.

Betty is survived by her brother, James H. Perry and his wife Wilma of Maxwell Hill, her niece Leslie Redden and her husband Marlon of Piney View, and her great nieces Lana and Emma Redden. She and Emma were especially close. She is also survived by cousins, Donovan Russell, Susan Stoops, and her family, and Marvin Beall.

Also very dear to her were Gary, Noah, Jane, and Patty Raines, and their spouses and children. Family is not always defined by blood, but rather with the heart. She will be missed greatly by all who knew her, including her little dog Cody.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley on Friday, March 14, 2014 at 1 p.m., with Rev. Don Snyder officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity, W.Va.
