Mary Ann Aleckson



Mary Ann Aleckson, 86, passed away with her family by her side on Friday, February 28, 2014 at Caslen's Living Center in Livingston, MT.

She was born on October 5, 1927 in Silverton, OR to Hjalmer and Gertrude(Hoffman) Fossholm. Originally from Toledo, OR, Mary Ann relocated to Livingston to be near her family.

Mary Ann graduated from Toledo High School and lived and worked in the area until joining her family in Montana about 12 years ago.

She retired from the Central Lincoln Public Utility Department of Newport in 1988 after 28 Years of service. Prior to working at the PUD, she worked for Guy Roberts Lumber Company and Snyder's Grocery during high school.

Mary Ann was an active member of Beta Sigma Phi and the Order of Eastern Star and was a past Matron. She was active in her church and served as the organist for years. She loved her piano and often played for various events, including weddings, funerals and as she put her girls to bed at night. She was proud of her many rhododendrons, azaleas and various blooming trees and shrubs in her yard. She loved to travel and once she discovered traveling by airplane, the family called her "The Gypsy." She traveled the U.S. and abroad with family, friends and co-workers, including Europe, Great Britain, Hawaii, Mexico, California, Florida and most of the states. With her mother Gertrude, she even visited a remote island in the Aleutians-Adak, AK Naval Air Station. She enjoyed many hours sewing, reading and quilting; often making quilts to depict family history and places relatives had lived.

She is survived by her daughters Sue (Bruce) Martin of Livingston and Elizabeth (Rob) Berry of Orlando, FL; granddaughters Sheryl (Mack) Dettmann of Belgrade, MT, Jody McCaffrey of Orlando, FL, and Heather (Jayson) Brown of Jacksonville, FL; sister Karen (Ron) Figart of Matthews, NC; nieces and nephews, and other relatives.

The burial will be on March 14, 2014 at the Bethany-Silver Falls Cemetery in Silverton, OR with immediate family.

Mary Ann's Memorial Service will be on March 15, 2014 at 2:30PM officiated by Mark Brazelton and Shawn Figart, Mary Ann's nephew. Eastern Star brothers and sisters will perform the Eastern Star funeral Ritual as Mary Ann wished. It will be held at First Baptist Church at 120 NW 11th St Toledo, Oregon (11th and Nye Streets). A reception will follow at the Hallmark Inn and Resort in Newport, OR at 744 SW Elizabeth St.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to Livingston Hospice Care, 514 S. 13th St. Livingston, MT 59047 or the Yellowstone Boys & Girls Ranch, 1732 S. 72nd St. West, Billings, MT 59106. Contact with the family may be done at 3 Martin Way, Livingston, MT 59047. Stenberg Funeral Home in Big Timber, MT has handled the final arrangements.
