Robert "Bob" Joseph Bongartz, age 76, of Ellis passed away Sunday, March 9, 2014 at Trego Manor in WaKeeney. He was born December 19, 1937 in Trego County, Kansas. He attended Sunflower Country School in Trego County and graduated from Ellis High School in 1955.

He retired from Ellis County Road Department. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Ellis Council 02133 and the Russell VFW. He was also a veteran of the US Army serving from 1956 – 1958.

He is survived by a brother, George Bongartz and wife Lillian of Ellis; three sisters, Christina Bollig and husband Julius of WaKeeney, Anna Marie Davidson of Cloverdale, OR and Betty Lou Honas of Council Grove, KS. He is also survived by 24 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, William Bongartz Jr and a brother-in-law, John Honas

Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Thursday, October 13, 2014 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ellis. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors.

Visitation will be Wednesday 4 PM – 8 PM and Thursday 9 AM – 9:30 AM all at Keithley Funeral Chapel 400 E 17th Ellis, KS.

A Parish Vigil and Knights of Columbus rosary will be 7 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.
