"I am the son of William Draper and Lydia Lathrop Draper. My grandfather's name was Thomas Draper and my grandmother's maiden name was Lydia Rogers. My father and grandfather were born in Pennsylvania State, and I was born in the Province of Upper Canada, Township of Richmond, County of Frontenac, Midland District, April 24, 1807."

William Draper had a long and colorful life among the early members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. A polygamist, he had seven wives and 52 children. A detailed record of his life and family is found in The Mormon Drapers, written by Delbert M. Draper, a grandson of William by way of Riley Newton Draper and Lena Margretta Morley.

He died May 28, 1886 in Freedom, Utah.
