Mr. King was president of the illustrious Mermod, Jaccard, King Jewelry Company known throughout the world for the fine jewelry and artistic tableware & home furnishings of silver and gold created by its artisans.

He was born in England to D.W. and Sarah King. On 30 April 1884 he married Mary Hopkins in St. Louis.

Educated in the public & private schools of St. Louis, he attended Clark's Academy. His first position was as bookkeeper & cashier of Mermod, Jaccard and he remained with the firm all his life, becoming a full partner in 1865.

The Art Nouveau movement was momentous in St. Louis. He was chosen to serve as juror and historian of the Art Metal section of the Columbian Exposition in Chicago, 1893. One of his appointments in this regard was as special commissioner to Japan.

In 1900 Gov. Lon Stephens appointed King as Missouri's representative to the Paris Exposition of 1900. The style that was universally present at this grand event was Art Nouveau. He also served as one of the original Committee of Five to consider plans for the proper celebration of the Louisiana Purchase Exhibition, now known as the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair. He served as chairman of committees on anthropolocy, ethnology, manufactures & liberal arts.
