Mary Isobel Smilie is the daughter of James Alexander Smilie and Isabella Lawrence McDonald Smilie. She married Alden McElrath and had four children: Mary Isobel, Elizabeth, Alden Jr., and Innes.
Services will be held tomorrow for Mrs. Mary Smilie McElrath, member of a pioneer Alameda County family. She died Thursday at the age of 85. She is survived by her husband, Alden McElrath, also a native of Oakland and onetime director of the Alameda County Juvenile Hall; a son, Alden McElrath Jr.; two daughters, Mary McElrath Corlett and Innes McMelton of Cloverdale, and 12 grandchildren. The 11:30 a.m. services will be at the Albert Brown Mortuary Chapel, 3476 Piedmont Ave.
