Wife of Zachariah Leatherwood, daughter of William Lindsey Allen and Mary Calvert Lindsey Leatherwood. Grandmother of Issac U. Leatherwood.

Zacariah and wife, Nancy {Allen} Leatherwood, came to Alabama from SC abt 1837. They had 9 children, some born in SC, and some in Alabama. They are both buried in north Alabama, in Lawrence County.
Their youngest child, a daughter named "Susan Ellen" {or Susannah} was born between 1840 & 1843. The "family secret" surrounds Susan and who the father of her two sons are. Her oldest son, Issac Ulysses, was born Dec 25, 1859. She is said to have been living in Hardin County, Tennessee at the time of the Battle of Shiloh during the Civil War, and had to hide Issac under the bed during the skirmish. She gave birth to her 2nd son, Josephus C., Feb 10, 1863, which would have also been during the Civil War conflict. Susan vanishes from family records, and her two sons were raised by their grandparents, Zachariah & Nancy. Issac & Josephus surname was changed to "Leatherwood".
Issac married Mary L Terry in north Alabama & had 6 children. Josephus married 1st wife, Mary d.1901, in Alabama, and 2nd wife, Ida Oliver, in Texas.
Someone, somewhere, in the family holds the key to unlock the secret of WHO is the father of Issac U. & Josephus C. Leatherwood, and what happened to their mother Susan???
