Margaret E. Serrecchia passed away surrounded by her family on Sunday morning, March 2, 2014, at the age of 95, at Yale-New Haven Hospital in Connecticut. Affectionately known as Peggy, she was born in Tuckahoe on July 28, 1918 to the late John Francis Oswald and Nellie Williams. She was a lifelong resident of Eastchester Village and was a graduate of Tuckahoe High School. She had worked at Bell Telephone from 1948 until her retirement about 40 years later and, at the same time, the family bakery in Crestwood. Peggy was predeceased by husbands Rocco Gaetano Serrecchia in 1954 and Peter Skalaski in 1995, and by her son, John Francis Serrecchia in 2000. She is survived by her son Rocco F. Serrecchia of Eastchester; grandchildren John Bradley (Paola) Serrecchia of Madison, CT, Ryan (Meredyth) Serrecchia of Huntington Beach, CA, Adam Serrecchia, and Caralyn (Michael) Vahoviak of Putnam, NY; a sister, Lillian Layton of Eastchester; a nephew John David (Caroline) Layton of Bronxville, and two daughters-in-law, Sally Salavec and Judy Wagner. She was a devoted communicant of Immaculate Conception Church in Tuckahoe and found great comfort in her religion. Calling hours at the Fred H. McGrath & Son, Funeral Home in Bronxville, between the hours of 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm Friday. Mass of Christian Burial Immaculate Conception Church, Tuckahoe on Saturday, March 8, at 10:30 am. Internment at Gate of Heaven in Hawthorne.
