Tuesday 21 June 1927:

"Mr. Patrick F. Burke, age 71 years, died Monday afternoon at 4 o'clock, at his home on Fifth Street, McMechen, following an illness of the past two weeks, due to complications and the infirmities of old age.

The deceased had resided in McMechan for the past 42 years, coming to Marshall County from Amblersburg, W.Va.

He was employed as conductor and yard master during the early years of his time in McMechen, having been transferred from the Third Division of the Baltimore and Ohio railroad at Keyser, W.Va., to the Benwood yards. At the time of his death he was employed at the Benwood shops, and was the oldest employee in service in the Benwood yards. He was a devoted member of St. James Catholic Church of McMechen.

His wife, Anna (Kelly) Burke preceded him to the grave in the year 1890.

Mr. Burke is survived by two sons, Stephen Francis Burke, of Benwood and Patrick James Burke, at home; four daughters, Mrs. Charles Tefft of McMechen, Miss Catherine, at home, and Misses Anna and Elizabeth graduate nurses of North Wheeling Hospital.

Two grandchildren also survive, Stephen Burke of Benwood and Billy Burke Vaughan, of McMechen.

Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 9 o'clock when Requiem High Mass will be celebrated by Rev. Father Kennedy at St. James Catholic Church in McMechen.

Immediately following the services the remains will be entrained for Westernport, Md., where interment will be made in St. Peter's Cemetery of that place at sunset Thursday."

At the time of his death he was employed at the Benwood shops, and was the oldest employee in the service of the Benwood yards.

Two sons and four daughters survive."

"Funeral services for Patrick F. Burke, aged 71 years, who died at his home in McMechen, W.Va., Monday, were he had resided for 40 years were held at St. Joseph Church, Wheeling, W.Va., Thursday morning. Following the arrival of his body on Baltimore and Ohio train No. 56, Thursday afternoon he was buried at St. Peter's Cemetery, Westernport.

The services at the grave were conducted by Rev. Dr. William E. Kelly, assistant pastor of St. Peter's Catholic Church, Westernport.

The pallbearers were Charles Athey, Leo Hines, John J. Mullen, Joseph E. Mullen, John Burns, M. J. Fleming, Cumberland.

Among those who attended the burial services were Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Dowd, Mr. Tefft, McMechen, W.Va.; Michael and Thomas Burke, Pittsburgh; Mr. Marshall, Wheeling, W.Va.; Mr. John Mullen, Michael Edwards, Miss Margaret Burns and Miss Annie Moore, Cumberland."
