Bishop Boyd M Kinzer Sr of Columbia, died Wednesday, July 20, 2005, at Maury Regional Hospital.

Burial in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens.

The Maury County native was the son of the late Thomas Jefferson and Gertrude Secrest Kinzer. He attended the Maury County school system. He was an entrepreneur and businessman owning and operating a grocery store, laundromat, and monument company. He was manager of People's Funeral Home in Mt Pleasant and served as the first black policeman in Columbia. He was the pastor of Springfield Church of God where he served for 44 years. He also served on the Ecclesiastical Hoard of the Churches of God.

He was preceded in death by son Danny Eugene Kinzer; his sister Lillie Akin; and brother John H. Kinzer.

Survivors include his wife, Samella Newson Kinzer; daughter Gloria (Elder Roosevelt Conway) of Columbia; three sons: Boyd M Kinzer Jr (Gloria), Kerry Drake Kinzer (Quintina), and Dwight E Kinzer all of Columbia; brother William Kinzer of Columbia; and other relatives and friends.
