Hastings Gazette - Aug 13, 1948 "WILLIAM ATCHISON FUNERAL SERVICES SET FOR TODAY-Resident Here 22 Years Died After Illness Of 8 Months Services will be conducted this afternoon (Friday) at 2 o'clock at Kaercher's Funeral Home for William Atchison. 72 years old, Hastings resident 22 years, who died Tuesday afternoon, August 10. Interment will be in Lakeside cemetery. Mr. Atchison had been ill eight months with complications, his death occurring at Latto Hospital where he had been a patient for a week. A native of Alkader, Iowa, where he was born May 15, 1876, Mr. Atchison was the last surviving member of a family of five sons and one daughter. During the past year, two of his brothers passed away. Before coming to Hastings 22 years ago, Mr. Atchison served as police chief at Prescott, WI for a period of 20 years. Surviving are, his wife, Velma; either sons, Guy, Howard, & Raymond of St. Paul; Glenn and Charles of Hastings; Sgt Elmer, U.S. Army, of Minneapolis; Alfred, Worthington, and Floyd, St. Paul Park; three daughters, Miss Bernice A. Atchison, Hastings; Miss Gladys Atchison, and Mrs. Kenneth Kern, St. Paul; and nine grandchildren. All of Mr. Atchison's sons and daughters were called home before their father's death." PER DEATH CERTIFICATE: He died of Cerebral Hemorrhage & Arterial Sclerosis.
