Billie Joe Cartwright, 87 of Amarillo passed away March 3, 2014. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 7, 2014 at Bell Avenue Baptist Church with Rev. Danny Logan officiating. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery by Griggs-Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 S. Bell. Bill was born December 11, 1926 to "Ras" and Lylyan Cartwright in rural Cottle County, Texas. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II and served in the South Pacific. At the end of the war he received an honorable discharge and returned to Amarillo, where on April 19, 1947 he married Bonnie Britton. He worked for Southwestern Public Service Company for 37 years in their electric generation plants. After retirement he and Bonnie returned to Amarillo. They were active members of Bell Avenue Baptist Church, where Bill served as a deacon until his health failed. He will be remembered as a strong Christian and a devoted family man. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers, O.C. Cartwright and Ray Cartwright, both of Amarillo and a son-in-law, Garry Bowen. Bill is survived by his wife, Bonnie Cartwright of Amarillo; four daughters, Billie Dauster and husband Lydell of Victoria, Texas, Patsy Bain and husband Robert of Amarillo, Jo Ann Franklin and husband Jerry of Canadian and Ida Beth Richardson and husband Joe of Scott City, Kansas; 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; also by numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members
