RAYVILLE — A two-car collision on Smalling Road about five miles north of here took the lives of a Rayville couple, late Wednesday night, according to state police.

Mr. and Mrs. Alford [sic Alfred] W. Hazel were killed when the car they were driving collided with another vehicle.

Joint funeral services were to be at 3 p.m. today in the chapel of the First National Funeral Home of Delhi with the Rev. Fred Feazell officiating.

Burial was to be in the Delhi Masonic Cemetery under the direction of Rayville Funeral Service.

Mr. Hazel is survived by two brothers, W. M. Hazel, Maytown, Tex., Gene Hazel, Newellton; five sisters, Mrs. A. C. Odom Jr. and Mrs. George Kelly, both of Baton Rouge, Mrs. Walter Wilkerson and Mrs. Jimmy Pasto [sic Rosto], both of New Orleans, and Mrs. Dole Tappley of Natchez, Miss.; and his mother, Mrs. F. M. [sic J. M.] Hazel, Baton Rouge.

Mrs. Hazel is survived by three sons, Jerry M. Carter, Fitchburg, Mass.; Billy Carter, Little Rock, Ark., and Jimmy Brister, Monroe; two brothers, Harvey Brownell, Delhi, and Horace Brownell, Waverly; two sisters, Mrs. Alma Lee Russell, Ferriday, and Mrs. Ruth Estell Watts, Waverly; her mother, Mrs. Fannie Lee Brownell, Delhi; and four grandchildren.

Pallbearers were to be Harvey Presley, Michael Porter, Doc Callaway, B. F. Kelly, Charles Bullock, Calvin Goodman, Dan Smalling, Elmer Smalling, Levon Gratham, Larry Shoemaker, Calvin Payne, and Sam Gregory.

Mrs. Sallie Lee Hazel, his mother, died in New Orleans, LA on August 11, 1972. Her obituary stated that she was interred in a cemetery there.
