FAIRFIELD - Carl E. Johnson, 61, died Wednesday at 10:15 p.m. at his home five miles northwest of Birmingham (sic. not entirely sure which county that would be in).

He was born Feb. 8, 1912, at Fairfield to Herman and Ida Sanquist Johnson. On Sept. 6, 1941, he married Opal Lee. He had lived on the current farm 23 years, and had been a lifetime Jefferson County resident. He was a World War II veteran.

Surviving are his widow; one son, Roger of Lafayette, La.; one daughter, Mrs. Gary Bonar of Muscatine; one granddaughter; one brother, Leonard of San Francisco; one sister, Mrs. Harry Baker of Fairfield; one stepsister, Mrs. Wesley Greenfield of Fairfield; two stepbrothers, Gene Leedy of Fairfield, and Don Leedy of Portland, Ore.; and his stepmother, Mrs. Herman Johnson of Fairfield.

He was preceded in death by a stepbrother.

The service will be Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Weston Behner Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jack Weida officiating.
