BOEHM - Josephina (nee Koch), aged 68 years, beloved wife of Leopold F. Boehm, mother of Poldie, Mortiz and Henry R. Boehm. Oct. 14 at Ravinia, Ill. Services at Graceland chapel Sunday, Oct. 16. (Source: Chicago Daily Tribune, October 15, 1904)
Her death certificate states she was buried at Graceland Cemetery in Chicago, IL, on October 16, 1904 but I have confirmed with the cemetery that she was actually cremated and her remains were given to her family.
The whereabouts of Mrs. Boehm's remains are unknown at this time. Mysteriously, Josephine, her husband Leopold F. and son Henry Richard (1871-1914) are listed together in the 1946 Los Angeles Death Index between June 29-30 with the death date noted as "unknown" for all three. No DC numbers are listed and "R" for removal from the index is noted for each. Her last surviving son, Moritz, died in Los Angeles in 1943.
My guess is that Mortiz had them in storage when they were discovered. Where are they now? The quest continues.
