Harvey J. Allarie Jr., 68, died Monday, June 7, at home.
He was born in Winthrop, on March 27, 1936, the son of Harvey and Adelia Dumais Allarie. He attended schools in Winthrop and Lewiston. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1953 to 1957, and was a member of the American Legion Post 22 in Lebanon, N.H.
He married Helen Kownacki March 1, 1968. He was previously married to Kathaleen Pike with whom he had a daughter, Julie, and a son, Michael James Allarie
He enjoyed working with wood especially making birdhouses and birdfeeders for his family and friends, and dollhouses for his granddaughters and a rocking horse for his grandson. He loved living in the country and enjoyed feeding the wild life on his property.
While living in Virginia, for 17 years, he was employed as a roofing foreman for the James Myers Roofing and Sheetmetal Co. in Beltsville, Md., and also worked for the Architect of the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C.
He later worked as a custodial squad leader for Facilities Operations and Management at Dartmouth College in Hanover, N.H., retiring in 1999, after 13 years of service. While at Dartmouth College he was selected to be part of the Implosion Team for the Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital in 1995. After retirement he worked part-time for the Department of Safety and Security at Dartmouth College.
Survivors include his wife, Helen of 36 years; two daughters, Julie Allarie and her husband Charles Larsen of Venice, Calif., Michele Rioux of Lewiston; one son, M. James Allarie of Auburn; four grandchildren, Adriauna Kelleher, Roxanne and Samantha Rioux and Henri Larsen; one brother, Roger Allarie and his wife Deanna of Augusta.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Joy Allarie in 1969; one brother, Adrien Allarie; three sisters, Anita Allarie, Dorothy LaRue and Juliet Dostie.
