This is my most precious and only grandson...

Alex was born in Jackson, Michigan, the treasured and beloved son of Troy and Rebecca (Chester) Lawrence. A sweet and loving child, he grew up in Hudson, and moved with his family to Jerome. He attended North Adams-Jerome School, where he played football and the trumpet. As a sophomore student there, he was well-liked by all who knew him.

Alex loved the Lord Jesus Christ, was saved at a young age. He was later baptized in 2007, and attended North Adams Baptist Church. He was a hard worker with a tender servant's heart. He loved helping people with anything they needed doing, especially the people in his little home-town community of Jerome, Michigan, where he was indeed a true friend to many. He enjoyed restoring cars, and was always working on his prized "Blue Bomber" truck. Alex also enjoyed Nascar racing and other sports. He also truly loved his border-collie, Ford. Everywhere Alex went, Ford was always at his side.

So lovingly called "Bubba" by many of his family, he loved to tease his sisters... but he was a very devoted and loving brother. He was always there for them in every way, and taught them how to do many things. His youngest sister, Maggie, bravely shared publicly at his funeral service about how he taught her to ride a bike, and how to swim. He was always there in his sisters' lives to protect them from any bullying, or whatever else might threaten them.

Born with the heart of old-fashioned chivalry, Alex was taught by his Grandpa Chester to exhibit honor and respect for others. He was devoted especially to all the women in his life, always exhibiting courtesy and honor to them.

Alex's great heart, with his awesome capacity for love and honor, might be one of the reasons he passed away very unexpectedly from us all.

He was preceded in passing by his Grandma Marti; his grandfather, Jerry Lawrence; and great-grandfathers, William Lawrence, Arthur Chester, and Bill Bentley.

His entire school was dismissed at noon on Friday, March 7th, so that his classmates could attend the funeral service to honor Alex's life, which was a standing-room only event held at North Adams Baptist Church. A long processional followed from there to Alex's final resting place in Jerome Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were professionally handled by Hampton-Kurtz Funeral Home of Hillsdale, Michigan.

We know that Alex has safely arrived in heaven, but he will be sadly missed here by his entire family, and all his classmates and friends at North Adams-Jerome School.

Always a silent pain,
and many the silent tears,
Always a bittersweet memory
of the times we shared, so dear...

God, give us strength to bear it..
and courage to take the blow,
For what it means to lose Alex,
no one will ever know...
