Dillard T. Curry died of pneumonia at 4 o'clock, Thursday morning, January 18, 1894; at the home of his father, O. H. Curry, living 3 miles north of Arbela; aged 20 years 5 months and 14 days. Deceased was born Aug 4, '73, and spent his entire life in this immediate neighborhood. Tobe, as he was commonly called, was a large, stout young man, whose steady, quiet, unassuming traits of character, won the respect of all who knew him, and those who knew him best appreciated him most.

During his two weeks' illness and intense though patient suffering, he had the kindest of care and best of medical assistance and few realized that the Death Angel was hovering so near. On Wednesday, when it became generally known that he was expected to live but a short time at most, a gloom was cast over the entire community and the school, of which he had been a regular attendant, realized that they were soon to loose [sic] one of their much respected members. On the following morning, ere the dawn of day, he heard the summons: "Thy work is done, your suffering is 'oer; thy journey on life's rugged pathway is ended." Quietly and peacefully, as he had lived, he answered the call and with a mere struggle of the body, his spirit took its flight on angel wings to the realms of light, where a fond mother was waiting to welcome home her boy. On Friday at 11 o'clock funeral services were conducted at the Black Oak Church by the Rev. John Boon, after which the body was laid to rest.

Rest on, dear one, thy work is done,
Wear the crown thy victory's won;
Sing the songs of the Angel Band;
In that fair celestial land.
